I’ve noticed a trend the past few years in which clients come to me for therapy or counseling from 40 to 55 miles away who live in small towns along the Pennsylvania and Maryland line. At first I thought this odd but I have heard several reasons given for why this makes sense:
- Baltimore is the closest easy destination for multiple shopping stops and appointments all in one cluster.
- Lack of sufficient counseling resources in their towns.
- Concerns about privacy — not just from seeking counseling locally but because just a few institutions dominate and — if clients have connections to those institutions — they are worried about seeking services from them.
My office is immediately next to I-83 in Baltimore and an easy straight shot from many small towns along the MD and PA line. Here is a list of small towns and cities right next to I-83 that have an easy trip to my location:
- Hanover, PA
- New Freedom, PA
- Spring Grove, PA
- York, PA
- Shrewsbury, PA
- Loganville, PA
- Spry, PA
- Glen Rock, PA
- Freeland, MD
- Parkton, MD
- White Hall, MD
- Monkton, MD
- Sparks, MD
- Hunt Valley, MD
So if you are having trouble finding the counseling help you need in Hanover, PA or York, PA or the like, please consider setting up a group of easy convenient shopping, dining, and appointment stops down in Baltimore and come see me.
